July Garden

It's end of July and my garden is in it's glory! The mint is riotous, the roses are prolific and the hydrangeas are a blue symphony. I watched a hummingbird aflutter around my feeder. It went from yellow feeding tube to yellow feeding tube, and I realized it thought they were actual flowers with nectar. I was glad I had taken the trouble to keep the feeder filled and clean so that "hummy" could lunch outside my window.
The sunsets over the lake are heartbreaking and we sit and enjoy them bathed in the golden light.

Hydrangeas for my vases.

The boats rest idle by the dock after a hard day's paddle.

Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum was designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and was completed in 1959. It's among the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. The museum's great rotunda has been the site of many celebrated special exhibitions, while its smaller galleries are devoted to the Guggenheim's renowned collection, which ranges from Impressionism through contemporary art.

Food Carts outside the Guggenheim

The new New York craze of food carts is evident in front of the museum

Yum!

The gelato was the winner on a 90 degree day!

Photos were not permitted inside so these two are the only ones I could sneak!

If you are ever in New York, make sure you visit the Guggenheim.

Dinner on the Lake

The Women's Club at my lake just had a progressive dinner. All it means is that the appetizer course takes place in one house, the main course takes place in another and dessert in another.

The very special thing about this progressive dinner is that all the homes are on the lake. The Women's Club members ferry themselves across the lake to the various locations. The hosts set up outdoors and welcome the boaters for the meal.

The meals are pot luck, where each person brings either an appetizer, a main course or a dessert to share with the group.

Eighteen women crisscrossed the lake on a beautiful night two weeks ago.

Central Park

Central Park is one of the best urban parks in the world. I love strolling in the park and discovering all the different spaces and features.

It's an amazing oasis in an increasingly crowded city. When you walk off the street and into the park you feel as if you've taken a little trip to the country. The noise is buffered, the temperature becomes cooler, and the people are less rushed and more joyous.

One of my favorite places in the park is the Loeb Boathouse Restaurant.  It's one of the first places my husband took me before we were married and it holds a special place in my heart. The restaurant is on a lake and one can see through a wall of windows the boaters glide through the green waters and the gondola ferry it's customers across the lake.

It has a wonderful lounge where you can have an aperitif before dinner.

It's a greats spot for a romantic dinner and my hubby recently took me there again.

Here's a peak at our latest visit to the Boathouse:

Beet Salad

Heirloom tomato salad with Greek Feta cheese

Swordfish with cauliflower

Monkfish with mashed potatoes and sautéed zucchini. Yum!
